The Broadnook Big Lunch – A Celebration of Community

Sunday 8th June saw the Broadnook community come together for a heart-warming afternoon at the Broadnook Big Lunch, organised by The Broadnook Community Trust and Rothley Church. Despite the grey skies and a few light showers, the event was a resounding success, with around 40–50 residents turning out to share food, laughter, and conversation.

Thanks to Rob, the local Vicar, who generously brought along two gazebos, we had some much-needed shelter – and just as the event wrapped up, the sun made a brief but welcome appearance!

The bring-and-share picnic was a true highlight. Everyone contributed something, creating a delicious spread that included everything from classic picnic fare to homemade Indian snacks that were a big hit. The amphitheatre provided a stunning backdrop, with children joyfully running up and down its slopes between games.

What stood out most was the genuine sense of community. The community mingled, shared stories, and even discovered future neighbours. Many expressed interests in getting more involved with the Trust and helping shape the future of Broadnook together.

We captured plenty of wonderful moments throughout the day – including a group photo by the Broadnook sign, thanks to one resident who brought along a drone. These images sparked a fantastic idea: to make this an annual tradition, visually documenting the growth of our community over the next five years.
