OVER 700 CHILDREN CELEBRATE SUCCESS AT OLYMPIC-THEMED WEEK

Broadnook Garden Village and the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre (LOPC) recently concluded a thrilling Olympic-themed week, where over 700 children participated in various sports activities, earning certificates and medals of all colours.

Taking place from Monday 29 July to Sunday 4 August, the exciting week-long event saw children participating in a thrilling lineup of Olympic-themed activities such as climbing, fencing, kayaking, archery, air rifle shooting, and paddleboarding, as part of Broadnook and LOPC’s Champion Challenge week.

Guided by LOPC’s expert coaches, the young athletes competed in a fun and supportive environment, mirroring the spirit and excitement of the Paris Olympic Games.

But it wasn’t just for the kids; throughout the week, LOPC hosted open sessions for all members of the public to book onto and experience their own taste of athletic esteem.

Both the children and the attendees at the open sessions set their own scores or times to win bronze, silver, or coveted gold medals. The festivities culminated in an Olympic-style medal ceremony each day, celebrating achievements and fuelling aspirations for future sporting glory.

David Robinson, Business Manager at Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre said: “Teaming up with Broadnook Garden Village for the Broadnook Olympic Challenge Weekend has been an incredible experience, so far. This partnership is fantastic not only for the Outdoor Pursuits Centre, but also for Broadnook, as it brings the community together in a fun and engaging way. Local kids will have an absolute blast participating in the activities, making new friends, and discovering the joys of outdoor adventure. It’s a wonderful opportunity to promote physical activity, teamwork, and community spirit.”

Iona O’Carroll, Manager for Broadnook Community Trust said: “It is incredibly exciting to collaborate with the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre for this Olympic-themed weekend. Broadnook’s goal is to foster a sense of community and promote active, healthy lifestyles among local people. This event is a fantastic way to engage with families and showcase the values that Broadnook Garden Village stands for.

“Investing in the Charnwood area is at the heart of Broadnook Garden Village’s ethos. By dedicating more than fifty per cent of our development to green spaces and partnering with organisations like LOPC, we aim to make a positive impact on the local community. We believe in creating environments where residents can thrive, both physically and socially.”

Broadnook Garden Village is a pioneering residential development being brought to life by developers Davidsons Homes, Cora, and Bovis Homes. Located near Rothley in Leicestershire, it offers a unique blend of town and country living, with over fifty percent of its area dedicated to parks, woodlands, allotments, and natural spaces – five times the national average for new builds over the last decade.

The village features high-quality, environmentally aware modern housing, with the first showhomes now available to view, as well as sports pitches, play areas, and extensive walking and cycling routes, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for residents.

As part of the planning agreement with Charnwood Borough Council, Broadnook’s developers are investing £32 million to enhance local community facilities. This includes creating new bus routes, retail shops, a community library, coffee shop, multi-purpose community spaces, and sports fields. A notable £17.6 million is earmarked for a new primary school and improvements to existing school facilities in Charnwood.

And it’s not just those attending the Olympic-themed fun weekend who can be winners; a social media competition has been launched to coincide with the greatest sports event in the world, where one lucky winner can win their very own stand-up paddleboard, among other prizes, ideal for use on LOPC’s picturesque waterways. To enter, participants simply need to post a picture of themselves engaging in a sporting activity before the end of August, tagging @BroadnookGardenVillage and @LOPC on Facebook or Instagram.
